1. An update.

Hello to my dear darling followers. I know I’m a bad blogger and I haven’t posted anything in ages BUT, hear me out, I have a good reason (or twenty)!

Over the last few months I’ve been writing my dissertation, which is now complete (!!) and may actually get published (!!!) so I can finally relax!

Wait, wait, no I can’t, I’m a final year student nurse. The word “relax” doesn’t get spoken much at this stage!

So now that my dissertation’s done, I’ve just started my final placement ever, which will finish at the end of July. This one’s particularly scary as you’re basically considered a staff nurse now, give or take a few months. To illustrate, on my first day last Tuesday, I thought my mentor was kidding when she said “Take that bay, off you go”. She wasn’t. No other help, no other support. Just, get in there and get on with it. Stressful? Yes. Overwhelming? No. Amazingly I did manage to get on with it and at the end of the day all my patients were alive and well! Huzzah!

So as well as that, I’m also now applying for jobs, which is scaring the bejeezus out of me. I’m having a mini-crisis regarding exactly where and in which department I want to work, as the general consensus amongst all my nursey friends at the moment is “APPLY EVERYWHERE! JUST GET A JOB! WORRY ABOUT SPECIFICS LATER!”

    So that’s fun.

    How are you all doing?

  2. Omg you guys.

I think I have finally, finally found all my articles for my dissertation.

  4. I haven’t posted in 100 years

I’m in third year now, and it’s horrible. I have SO MUCH WORK (which is why I haven’t really been posting) including a dissertation and several thousand essays.

Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. But hi, how are you? It’s been a while.

  5. Weeeeiiiirrddd

These past four weeks have gone FAST. Tomorrow is my last shift on GI Surgery and I start the Fracture Clinic on Monday. Ooh!

It’s strange but I don’t really feel like I’ve learnt all that much on this ward.. it’s been lovely, everyone’s really nice and 99% of the patients have been great but in terms of new skills and care… not so much new compared to various other surgical wards. I’ve tried to do as much as I can but since most of our patients are self caring and I’d already seen quite a lot of relevant skills, it’s just been a fairly straightforward, get-stuff-done sort of month.

So here’s to hoping I become plasterer extraordinaire on the Fracture Clinic! AND only one month til I get to go to Cuba..! Woop!

How’s everybody else’s summer placement going?

  6. Oooooooooooooooooooooh

I just picked my modules for final year!!

Women’s health and sexual health/contraception. I am SO happy there are modules on the two topics I find really interesting (giggle all you like at the fact I find sexual health interesting.. YEAH I do. But not for that reason, you big pervs).

This being said, it’s TERRIFYING that next year is my final year. I know I say it every year but I am going to BUCKLE DOWN and work my ass off. With the boyf in Madrid for a year and most of my friends either on clinical placements or in Pennsylvania (I better get a damn good present, Trouncy), I will not be distracted. Providing there’s not a lot of good TV, obviously.
